How to Live Like Jesus in Our Daily Life

We can live like Jesus in our modern world each day of our lives. In a
nutshell, reflecting the character of Christ entails a complete
relinquishment of control to God, dying to self daily, and engraving God’s
words into one’s heart.

Thus, for those whose love and faith in God are unwavering, becoming more
like Christ is a lofty goal, the greatest accomplishment in life we can all
aspire to achieve.

As humans, we may consider such an undertaking a formidable feat. No one
is perfect but God alone. We can’t be perfect like Jesus, not yet, as we’re still
bound to some degree by this mortal body we temporarily inhabit.
Nonetheless, our moral lapses and failings should not dissuade us from
pulling out all the stops to live life like Christ did.

We may stumble now and then— as we are flawed human beings, vulnerable
at times to our adversary’s deceitful attacks. But despite this, we must never
stop striving to adhere diligently to God’s commands.

Let’s be mindful of what God said in Leviticus 11:44:

“For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy,
for I am holy.”

Thus, we must strive not to grieve the Holy Spirit and continue to yield to
the things of the Spirit. By doing so, we will not be entangled by the deceit
and enticement of sin, free from the clutches of the enemy’s sly and devious
maneuvers.

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should
pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the
mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the
will of God.” — Romans 8:26-27 KJV

To live like Jesus, our acceptance of Christ as our Lord and Savior must first
be rooted in genuine faith and must come from the depths of one’s heart.
Otherwise, our fervent hope of living our lives the way Jesus did will just be
a far-fetched dream.

Thus, our lives will only be transformed in ways beyond what we can ever
hope for when we accept Jesus as the Lord of our lives. In so doing, the Holy
Spirit will dwell powerfully in us, changing our mindset and modifying our
actions to mirror the character of Christ.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

We now live in a world that promotes liberal ideologies, a set of principles
that run contrary to the Christian faith. Hence, reflecting the character of
Christ in our modern era has never been more crucial. The faithful are called
to be a light in this increasingly dark world to reflect the light of Christ to
people who live in darkness.

As it is written in Matthew 5:14-16:

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do
they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light
to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We can also live our lives as Christ lived by inscribing God’s words into our
hearts.

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm
119:11 NIV

Prevailing against the enemy’s cunning ploy also requires foreknowledge
and intensive preparation similar to the commitment required to dominate
the battlefield during fierce fighting.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles
of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness in this age, against
spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole
armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done
all, to stand.” — Ephesians 6:11-13

Here are some ways we can do to allow the radiant light of Christ to shine
through us.

Grow in the Light of God’s Word

The more deeply His words and teachings are ingrained into our hearts, the
deeper the yearning for obeying His will takes hold within us.

Be Sensitive to the Promptings of the Holy Spirit

Being sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit means that we resist the
lust of the flesh and choose to align our yearnings with what the spirit
desires.

“Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their mind set on what the
Spirit desires.’ Romans 8:5

Crucify the Flesh if You Want to Live Like Jesus

The more we yield to the desires of the flesh, the more it will assert its sway
and dominion over our lives. Thus, the only way to crucify the flesh is by
denying it nourishment. We must starve it out until it loosens its foothold in
our lives.

Choose Humility Over Arrogance

God abhors arrogance in all forms. Thus, if we wish to win God’s love and
affection, let’s embrace humility like Jesus did.

Jesus is the epitome of humility. Despite His stature as God, He chose to
humble Himself before God and man.

There were many instances in the Bible where Jesus showed great humility.

After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet,
drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.” John 13:1-5

“And then He told His apostles: “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed
your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that
you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater
than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the One who sent him. Now that
you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13:14-17

Jesus also experienced being slapped in the face, spat on, and ridiculed by a
crowd of people as He walked silently to His death, bearing His cross to
Calvary.

Without question— how Jesus died on the cross to bring redemption to
mankind demonstrated His unparalleled act of humility.

Pray in the Spirit at All Times

Prayer puts us in God’s presence, enabling His light to shine into the darkest
shadows of our souls. Thus, being in constant prayer empowers us to
overcome temptations, helping us to transcend our flaws and vulnerabilities.

As it’s written in John 1:5:

“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

Genuine Love and Compassion for Others

“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all
knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but
have not love, I am nothing.” –1 Corinthians 13:2

Prayer to Become Like Christ

We glorify Your Name, Almighty God,
for You are the embodiment of all that is good.
Ever so powerful yet so rich in mercy.

Your gift of salvation through the Messiah, Jesus Christ,
has enabled us to receive Your Spirit who dwells in us.
The One that empowers us to reflect the character of Your Son, Jesus.

giving us the desire and the power to do what pleases You.
